Frequently Asked Questions — Huntsville All Locksmith
Below are answers to the questions we get asked most often by customers throughout Huntsville and North Alabama. If your question is not answered here, call us at (256) 801-3117 — we answer every call and are happy to talk through your specific situation.
General Questions
What areas do you serve?
We serve all of North Alabama — primarily Madison County, Limestone County, Morgan County, and Marshall County. Key service cities include Huntsville, Madison, Athens, Decatur, Hartselle, Guntersville, Albertville, Arab, Gurley, Meridianville, Harvest, Hazel Green, New Market, Owens Cross Roads, Hampton Cove, Triana, Toney, Moores Mill, Monrovia, and all surrounding communities. We also respond to highway calls on I-565, I-65, US-72, US-231, and US-431. If you are not sure whether we cover your location, call us and we will confirm immediately.
Are you available 24 hours a day?
Yes. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year including all holidays. Lockouts and key emergencies do not keep business hours and neither do we.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We are licensed by the Alabama Electronic Security Board of Licensure (AESBL) and carry full liability insurance. We are happy to provide our license number upon request. We are also official vendors for U-Haul, Penske, Element Fleet, and Home Depot — organizations that independently verify licensing and insurance before approving service providers.
How do I know I can trust a locksmith I found online?
This is an important question — locksmith scams are unfortunately common. Here is what to look for: a verifiable local phone number, an AESBL license number you can check, a physical presence in the area, verifiable reviews, and upfront pricing before work begins. We meet all of these criteria. We are a legitimate, licensed, locally operated business — not a call center dispatching unlicensed operators.
Do you give free estimates?
Yes. We give free phone estimates for all services. Call us with your vehicle year, make, and model and we will give you a price before we dispatch. You are never committed to anything until you agree to the quoted price.
Response Time and Pricing
How fast can you get to me?
Our typical response time within the Huntsville city limits is 15 to 30 minutes. Madison and Athens are typically 20 to 35 minutes. Decatur is approximately 30 to 45 minutes. Outlying areas of North Alabama vary. We give honest estimated arrival times when you call — we will not tell you 15 minutes if it is going to be 45.
How much does a car lockout cost?
Lockout pricing depends on the vehicle type, location, and time of day. We charge flat rates with no hidden service fees or fuel surcharges. Call us for an exact quote — we are always transparent about pricing before we start any work.
How much does car key replacement cost in Huntsville?
Key replacement pricing varies significantly by vehicle make, model, year, and key type. A basic transponder key for an older domestic vehicle is considerably less expensive than a smart key for a current luxury vehicle. As a general range, basic transponder keys start lower and luxury push-to-start keys run higher. Call us with your specific vehicle for an exact quote — we give free estimates over the phone.
Do you charge extra for after-hours calls?
We provide upfront pricing when you call. Our rates are straightforward — call us at any hour and we will give you a clear quote before dispatching. What we quote is what you pay.
Do you accept credit cards?
Yes. We accept all major credit cards as well as cash. Payment is collected at the time of service after the job is completed to your satisfaction.
Car Lockout Questions
Will you damage my car opening it?
No. We use professional non-destructive entry tools designed specifically for automotive locksmith work. We do not use improvised tools, slim jims, or methods that risk damaging your door seals, window channels, or paint. Our goal is to open the vehicle with no trace that we were there.
My child is locked in the car. What should I do?
Call us immediately and tell us there is a child in the vehicle — we treat these as priority emergencies and dispatch immediately. Also call 911 — emergency services have the authority to break a window if the child is in distress and cannot wait. Do not hesitate to call both simultaneously.
Can you open my car if the battery is completely dead?
Yes. A dead battery affects the power locks and keyless entry, but we can still open the vehicle using the mechanical door lock. We also carry battery jump equipment if you need a start after we open the vehicle.
My keys are in the trunk, not the cabin. Can you still help?
Yes. We either open the vehicle first and use the interior trunk release, or we work with the trunk lock directly depending on the situation.
Car Key Replacement Questions
Can you replace a key if I have no original key?
Yes. An all keys lost situation — where no working key exists — is something we handle regularly. We decode the lock mechanically on-site and cut a complete replacement from scratch. No original key needed.
Do I need to take my car to the dealer for a key replacement?
No — not for the vast majority of vehicles. We carry OEM-level programming equipment for all major brands and can replace keys for virtually all vehicles on-site at your location. The only exception would be extremely rare manufacturer-specific restrictions on certain very new or very niche platforms.
How long does key replacement take?
Most key replacements take 30 to 60 minutes on-site from arrival to a working key in your hand. All keys lost situations may take 60 to 90 minutes or longer depending on the vehicle.
Do you require proof of ownership?
Yes, always. For any key replacement service we require proof that the vehicle is yours. Acceptable documents include vehicle title, current registration, or insurance card in your name. For commercial vehicles, company authorization documentation is acceptable.
My transponder key starts the car but the remote fob stopped working. What do I do?
If the key starts the car but the remote lock and unlock functions have stopped, the fob battery is the most likely cause. Most key fobs use a CR2032 coin cell battery available at any pharmacy. If a new battery does not resolve the issue, the fob may need to be reprogrammed — call us for on-site fob programming service.
Can you make a spare key while I still have my original?
Yes — and we strongly recommend it. Getting a spare made now is always less expensive than an emergency key replacement later. We come to your location anywhere in North Alabama to cut and program a spare on-site.
